Adrián García (Communication and Outreach Manager IFISC)

Abstract:

It is not that our way of consuming information and leisure is changing: it has already changed completely. While the consumption of information in traditional media is plummeting, especially by the new generations, information is being generated and moved through social networks at a dizzying speed. Understanding how these new forms of communication work is key to getting the message across, but there is a problem: formats are changing too. Beyond the written articles, there are podcasts, animations, computer graphics, tweets… and the flagship of the Internet: video. Video is the key format on popular sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or TikTok and anyone who wants to launch a message into the vast ocean that is the Internet and draw attention to it must have at least a basic knowledge of disciplines as diverse as writing, recording, editing, editing, SEO… Fortunately, this growing demand for more elaborate formats is accompanied by an increasing number of resources available. In this talk we will focus on how to take the first steps in the world of scientific popularization through new formats and how to make science-related content that is “almost” as appealing as the latest viral fad. Or at least try to do so
